I wokeup 2day with a smile on my face with full strength & a vision to start a beautiful day...but it all turns out to be a bad crying day, dat I can never 4get in my life....on my way to work dis morning I entered oshodi bus from fadeyi... Immediately I entered d guy on my left side started complaining dat d one at d bk was trying to pick his pocket next thing he changed position to my right side & said onipa wa oooo....next thing Immediately d one at d Bk hooked my neck and said don't shout.
D one beside the driver said allow her to lay down on d floor..... Dey drag me 

flat on d floor... He collected my bag Started asking question WHR do u work, I said I am student whc sch, whc course, wht level my name my state....I keep answering d question....he picked my ATM he asked 4 my pin I told him he gave it to one of dem and they dropped him...
I started crying if this is actually my end, are they going to use me, are they going going to kill me so many things started coming in to my mind, I remembered my mum & my siblings d 27years ago story DAT can't be forgotten in my family.....
I keep begging dem not to hurt me d man in front, said if they found so so amount in my acct they won't hurt me but if I give dem wrong pin or no money in my acct they will call my family or they will rape me till I lose my last breathe, I started praying silently calling 4 mercy they were 8 guys......one was busy touching my breast one hooked my neck down one used his legs to pin my legs 2gether I keep crying calling God to save me....
Next thing d guy dat droped called dem and d one in d front pass smthin to d one at d bk they told me to close my eyes but I didn't said to my self if am going to die am going to open my eyes and see everything.....next thing it was pepper he put pepper in my two eyes my breast and he was trying to open my trouser zip but he couldn't I was screeming I can't see,was trying guiding my eyes not to put more pepper trying holding my jeans not to put pepper in my virgina thinking of dey still want to rape me after all they collected from me my phones, powerbk my sis money in my bag and d change I Hv dere too they packed everything and dropped me on d floor at cooker going to oshodi and left till now am still not my self Hv never be handle like dat in my life (june14)my terrible day I just want to close my eyes and 4get everything but I can't, it keeps playing on my head and is hurting me more hmmmmmmmmm Thank God for saving my life..........

Drowned UNILAG students buried amidst tears

But we do not want you to be uninformed brothers about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. Therefore, mourn not, cry not, grieve not; but rather give thanks to God for the life lived,” these were the soothing words of Pastor Biodun Alimi, the officiating minister during the funeral programme for Adesola Olubola Ogunmefun and Funmilayo Odusina, the two students of the University of Lagos who drowned at the Elegushi beach earlier this week.

Despite the advice from the man of God, family members and friends of the two young women could not hold back their tears, as they wept bitterly while paying their last respect.

Their remains were retrieved from the Lagos General Hospital, Marina, Lagos and moved to the Private Vaults Garden, a section of the Ikoyi Cemetry in Lagos. It was a solemn environment as deafening silence enveloped the entire area. And the people, all wearing mournful faces, started arriving in groups of two and more as the mourners found their way to the already set grave.

As the lone voice of the officiating minister boomed out, it reverberated far and struck an emotional button in the families of the deceased, as they broke down in tears.

At exactly 12pm, the remains of the two were simultaneously committed to mother earth with their graves not far apart from each other. Their friends, all wearing yellow T-shirts that had the pictures of Adesola and Funmi boldly plastered on it, wore long faces as they tried to cope with their loss.

The deceased were nevertheless showered with numerous encomiums and tribute as their lives and times were recounted. According to Sunmibola Ogunmefun: Shola, my consolation is 1 Thessalonica, verse 13 and 18. Very simplistic, you have never been the kind to take things too seriously and your smile is always from ear…(I use ‘is’ because I know you are still smiling). Keeping malice with you was futile; you would always find way to break the ice and even now you won’t let me be angry at you. I guess you would have to scrub the gas cooker myself now, you promised you were going to do it this week.’

‘You are in the right place, not a single house chore; all you have got to do is sing your heart out, chill in your mansion, enjoy the feel of gold under you feet and keep smiling Shokuro (my talkative sister); I know you don’t understand why we are sad, I can imagine you staring at us as though we were are silly,’ she said.

Shortly before their remains were interred, families, colleagues and friends of Adesola Olubola Ogunmefun and Funmilayo Odusina mustered strengths to pay tributes to the two. In her brief tribute, Adesola’s younger sister,nsaid: ‘Adesolami, I really don’t know what to say. Can I ever survive without you? I miss you; miss the fact that no one will be beating my breast. RIP baby.

Aikulola Olu, a friend, said: “I kept hoping I would wake up on Tuesday morning and find out was just like a very bad dream. You would be back to hounding me on my personal life as usual. Unfortunately, this seems to be the reality. I choose to believe God has a reason. I most definitely won’t forget you and I will try to loosen up and live life to the fullest like you advised me constantly.”

Another friend, Lanre Akinwale, said he found it incomprehensible to admit the reality of their death, saying, “each time I have to contend with the reality of your death, what comes to my mind is your smile. When we met at a ceremony in Ikeja on Saturday, 4th of June, you were full of joy, happiness and enthusiasm. We dined and danced together. While you were leaving the venue in the company of a senior colleague, you waved your hand; I thought you meant to say bye, but I never thought you were actually bidding me farewell.”

Also paying their tribute, members of staff of the Ministry of Education, Ogun State, where she worked as the Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, described Adesola as a wonderful intellect of matchless courage.

In a statement, they said: “Adesola Ogunmefun strived hard to make sure that all our Model Schools are on point; she didn’t relent in her effort until she lost her life. She was extremely dedicated to her duty and was loyal to her Principal. We will miss your perpetual smile, the winkle in your dark brown eyes that would be the envy of any man.”

It will be recalled that the Post-Graduate Students of the University of Lagos, Funmi, 24 and Adesola 27 died last Sunday while celebrating the birthday of a friend a Elugushi Beach, Lagos.

While consoling the bereaved families, the officiating minister, who spoke on the transiency of, said the bereaved must be grateful for the fact that the dead knew God before their demise, saying that a life without Jesus was a waste. He said death was an inevitable phenomenon for all and sundry and urged people to make positive impacts on others and leave indelible mark as they go about their daily lives. According to him, though their time on earth was short, they made their marks in the lives family members, friends and colleagues.

Nigeria football legend Stephen Keshi has died suddenly at the age of 54.

One of African football's best-known figures, the ex-Super Eagles captain is one of only two men to win the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and a coach.

NFF president Amaju Pinnick: "This is devastating. We have lost a superhero."

Keshi, who is reported to have suffered a heart attack by local media. also managed Togo and Mali, while his playing career included a spell with Belgian club side Anderlecht.

Sunday Oliseh, a former team-mate and Keshi's successor as Nigeria coach, tweeted his shock at the "horrible news" and called Keshi "an iconic hero".

Keshi skippered the Nigeria team that won the Nations Cup in 1994 before narrowly missing out on a World Cup quarter-final place the same year.

He coached the Super Eagles on three occasions, leading them to the 2013 Nations Cup title in South Africa and the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup.

His contract was not renewed after the Brazil tournament but he returned on a match-by-match deal following the team's failure to reach the 2015 Nations Cup finals.

He was then sacked as caretaker coach but reinstated after intervention from then Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan.

Keshi, who lost his wife to cancer late last year, was then sacked for a final time last July.

•The billionaire’s donation to the IDPs should galvanise our rich into empathy

It was a humanitarian gesture that helped to highlight the needs of the people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State as well as the need to help them. It was particularly remarkable because the support came from private pockets and not from the public purse.

When on May 9 the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, made a donation of N2 billion to internally displaced persons (IDPs), he also made a powerful statement by his example. Apart from being the single largest donation by an individual, what Dangote gave reflected his appreciation of the enormity of the humanitarian crisis caused by terrorism.

This exemplary humanitarian response was reinforced by Dangote’s presence. It was a demonstration of empathy that communicated the humanity of Nigeria’s and Africa’s richest man. He was touring IDP camps in Dalori and Bakassi in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, when he announced his relief package which he said would be delivered through the Dangote Foundation.

Dangote said: “This is not the first time I am coming here and it will not be the last. So far, we have expended about N1.2 billion in efforts to alleviate the suffering of IDPs across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. The first major challenge is the physiological needs of these people, and food, nutrition rank right on top of that ladder. So we will first make serious effort to ensure that hunger is eliminated from the IDP camps and thereafter, we will begin to make effort to create jobs and boost entrepreneurship.” He added: “The effort to create jobs and boost enterprise in this case will not be about making money or returning investment, rather it will be primarily to create opportunities for the people.”

This is a welcome expression of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and it should be emulated by the country’s big private-sector players.  It is noteworthy that recent statistics by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) put the IDP population in the country’s Northeast at 2.2 million. According to UNHCR’s Representative to Nigeria, Ms Angele Dikongue- Atangana, who gave the figures at its yearly stakeholders’ briefing in Abuja in November last year, “The number is increasing specifically because regaining control of the territory by the military opened further access for the humanitarian officials so they can count many more IDPs, be they old IDPs or very recent ones.” To a large extent, the IDPs in question are products of acts of terrorism by the Islamist terror group Boko Haram, which has tormented the country since 2009.

It is hoped that Dangote’s action would galvanise others into action, especially considering the picture of inaction painted by no less a person than the Chairman of Northern Traditional Rulers Council and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who had observed that funds raised for the sake of the IDPs had not reached them. At the opening of the council’s second general assembly in Kaduna in November last year, the Sultan said: “When we go into closed session, we will discuss that thorny issue of displaced persons, mostly in the Northeast. It is a very sad situation; people are suffering. Billions and billions of naira have been collected or put aside for their welfare… It is important that this money be disbursed immediately via the governors.”

The Sultan added: “We want the governors to take the issue more seriously; take it up with Mr. President and ensure the release of the funds because I was part of the team when this money was collected for the IDPs during the last government. They should find out where that money is and disburse it immediately.”

This background helps to further underline the value of Dangote’s charity. The innocent people, who are not only displaced, but also distressed, deserve help.

Ultimately, giving back to society, which is the essence of CSR, is a desirable social action. Dangote’s example should serve as a wake-up call.

Oyo school pupils protest return of schools to missions

Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was locked down yesterday by pupils of public secondary schools who staged a protest around the city against state government’s plan to return some schools to their original owners.

The pupils gathered at the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oke-Ado and vandalised the two buildings, which also house the Governor Abiola Ajimobi Vocational Centre.

Trouble started after the pupils were sent home by their teachers on resumption at 8am.

The Nation learnt that the teachers told the pupils that the state government owes them salaries and that government was planning to sell their schools.

With leaves in their hands, the protesting pupils moved from Oke-Ado through Dugbe and Mokola to the state secretariat in Agodi, where they demanded to see the governor.

But they were prevented from entering the premises by security operatives stationed at the main gates.

The pupils vandalised the garden to register their grievance. They stayed there for hours while some workers joined them in the process, singing against the government.

They later left around 1pm.

As the protest was going on, the seven leaders of the state’s chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) perfected their bail conditions and were released from Agodi prisons, where they had been detained since court granted them bail on Friday.

At the prisons to secure their release were leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who arrived at the prison around 11:35am in a three white buses belonging to the union.

The ASUU members were led by Comrade Deji Omole, Dr. Ademola Aremu and the Southwest Coordinator, Prof. Segun Ajiboye.

On securing their release at about 12:40pm, the labour leaders trekked from the prison to the NLC Secretariat, Yidi area, a distance of about 1,500 metres. The three buses followed the unionists.

The labour leaders later addressed reporters where they declared an indefinite strike in the state civil service.

Led by their National Vice-Chairman, Mr. Solomon Adelegan, the NLC said the directive became necessary following a congress at the labour secretariat.

He said the strike would continue until the workers’ demands are met.

The demands, according to Adelegan, include: “Immediate withdrawal of all trump-up charges levelled against the incarcerated labour leaders; government must rescind its decision to sell-off any public schools in the state; proper and adequate funding of the education sector, including payment of living wages and other incentive for educational workers and immediate payment of six months outstanding salaries and pension arrears.”

The labour leader added: “The National Secretariat of NLC is quick to bring to the notice of the public of how the Senator Abiola Ajimobi-led government today mobilised hundreds of armed thugs  to Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court with a directive to allegedly attack innocent and law abiding workers whom are expected to be at the same magistrate’s court this morning to ensure the adequate perfection of bail conditions given towards the release of  the labour leaders, who  had been incarcerated since Friday 3,at Agodi prison in Ibadan.

“Consequently, our members were beaten, harassed and intimated by these gangs of armed thugs.

“This is a deliberate attempt to scare the workers away from the court premises with a view to frustrate the perfection of the bail conditions and ensure that our leaders continue to be incarcerated.

“It is also disheartening to state that students who also stormed the court premises in a protest against an attempt to sell off their schools to a handful of capitalist profiteers were also tear-gassed by policemen.”

Adelegan said the NLC and its Oyo State council condemned the “dastard approach of Ajimobi-led government”.

He added that at the same time, the workers “remain undaunted and no amount of persecution and intimidation is capable to deter us in the struggle to resist the sale of any of the state’s public schools”.

Reacting to the vandalisation of its office, the APC condemned the attack on some of its members and office, saying they were carried out by sponsored hoodlums.

In the statement by the party’s Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, the party fingered opposition politicians and some members of the labour movement as the sponsors of the hoodlums, who, he said, destroyed property estimated at several millions of Naira.

The statement reads: “Some pupils in their scores had been mobilised out of their respective classrooms in some public secondary schools in Ibadan- the state capital on Monday morning by a group of ‘politician-teachers sympathetic to the Accord Party’ and moved round the city with cudgels, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons as they chanted political and anti-government songs.

“At about few minutes past 11am, hoodlums which comprised of some public secondary school students as well as some disgruntled members of the NLC/NUT and the opposition party- Accord – stormed our party state secretariat at Oke-Ado and began to vandalise everything on sight. They also beat up some members of staff who had to be treated for varying degrees of injury sustained in the hands of the attackers before they were dispersed by the security agents.”

The statement called on the state Police Command and other security agencies to investigate the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators and their sponsors to book.

It appealed to the labour movement and other concerned groups to sheathe their sword and toe the line of dialogue with the state government.

Do you have pain and sorrow over unanswered request or lost of a beloved ? No doubt love is the most beautiful thing to have, hardest thing to earn and most painful thing to lose. Even though so much prayer and fasting on mountain and valley climbed without definite result and you pause to ask a rhetorical question " Why me?" . Peradventure you suddenly missed your beloved ones and the heaviness of your heart burdens you like Jesus to His disciples "But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart " John 16 : 6.

Trying is not a weakness, it`s a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long. So many question of pain and sorrow most time quench our heart when we remember the sudden departure of our beloved. How painful. Jesus delivering His final speech said to the disciple " very,very, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come : but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembered no more the anguish, for Joy that that a man is born into the world." John 16 : 20 - 21.

" Let not your heart be troubled " put more effort in a short-while you will soon say " indeed my God is good".
